Fifty Shades of Grey: Emma Watson Laughs off Rumours of Harry Potter's Hermione Becoming Anastasia Steele
Former Harry Potter star Emma Watson has shot down rumours she will play the role of Anastasia Steele in the film version of EL James's best-selling book, Fifty Shades of Grey. The Perks of Being a Wallflower actress took to Twitter to clear the air.
"Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life," she tweeted. The post was followed with a question mark.
It was previously reported the 22-year-old actress had been offered and had accepted the role. Those rumours surfaced after confidential documents from Constantin Studio's office in Germany were acquired by a group of hackers called M3du5a.
Meanwhile, apart from the Paris-born Watson, a number of other glamorous actresses, including Mila Kunis, Kristen Stewart, Kate Beckinsale, Anna Kendrick, Ashley Greene and Alexis Bledel have all been linked with the role.
Hollywood still seems besotted with the book, despite the fact it has been over a year since the film was announced and no progress has been reported. Indeed, there has been nothing more substantial that rumours, whether about the lead actress, actor or director.
The role of Christian Grey is generally believed to have gone to Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder and the 34-year-old recently spoke about the character's potential, hinting he was keen to take up the role.
"There are so many young boys in Hollywood up for this role," he said, on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live show, adding, "I think they have a very big job ahead of them casting this role. I can't say anything other than it's a very interesting story, and whoever plays that role is going to have a lot of fun [come] rehearsal time."
Universal Pictures, which is believed to be producing the film in association with Focus Features, has consistently denied all casting rumours, insisting that nobody has yet been cast.
