Where to watch Live

Kick-off is set for 5pm BST. The game will be telecast live on ITV in the UK. Radio commentary is available on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Overview

England will be favourites when they take on group F's bottom-placed club Malta at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The Three Lions are currently in the second place in the group behind neighbours Scotland, who are above them owing to a superior goal difference following their 5-1 win in their first game against the same opponents.

Gareth Southgate is preparing for his first game in-charge of the senior team after taking over on a temporary basis following Sam Allardyce's unceremonious exit. The former Middlesbrough boss has been managing the U21 team thus far, but will be given a fair crack to nail down the managerial position on a permanent basis.

Harry Kane and Nathaniel Clyne are missing for the clash owing to injury which could see Marcus Rashford return to the starting lineup after being omitted from the squad that faced Slovakia in their first qualifier last month. The biggest question facing the interim boss is the role of skipper Wayne Rooney, who could feature in midfield behind the main striker.

Theo Walcott is likely to be part of the starting XI owing to his blistering form for Arsenal of late, while Jamie Vardy could start on the bench with Daniel Sturridge preferred as the lone striker. Southgate will have two matches to look over as his immediate task as England take on Slovenia on Tuesday (11 October).

What Managers Say

Gareth Southgate: "I think Wayne can play in a number of positions and very well. What's key for this team when I look at them is whatever system we play, whatever position we ask them to play, that there's clear tactical responsibility. For me, as the coach, it is really important to embed that during their training. I think Wayne can play any number of different positions."
