Everton starlets Jonjoe Kenny and Joe Williams ready to make step up to first-team squad
Everton are known for handing opportunities to their young jewels.
Everton youth coach David Unsworth believes young starlets Jonjoe Kenny and Joe Williams are ready to make the step up into Ronald Koeman's senior squad and is confident the talented duo will not ''let anyone down'' if given a chance to strut their stuff.
Both Kenny and Williams, 20, have featured on the first-team bench in recent weeks but are yet to make an appearance under Koeman, who has awarded minutes to a host of youngsters already this season.
Despite their lack of top-flight action, Unsworth, who looks set to guide Everton's Under 23s to the Premier League 2 title, is certain that the local lads are ready for the big stage.
"They're certainly ready and, if called upon, they won't let anyone down, I know that for certain," Unsworth told Everton's official website.
"Jonjoe's already had a little taste of it and Joe's been unlucky with injuries because he was the Under-23s' Player of the Season last season. He got injured towards the end of the campaign and had to spend the whole summer in rehab and then on his way back he got another little injury.
"He's just coming into his form again now and he's getting that opportunity, that break that he needs by being in and around the first-team lads. But they're another two off the production line who will be absolutely fine if called upon and they're both humble lads and very professional."
"What all these lads are when they step up into the first team is desperate to be Everton players. I love that desperation in a young player. They're not big-timers, they're just desperate to represent Everton and this football club brings them up in the right way."
Tom Davies, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mason Holgate and Ademola Lookman have all become part of the Everton first-team this season, and Kenny and Williams will hope they can emulate their fellow young cohorts by receiving some minutes during the Toffees' clash with West Ham United at The London Stadium on Saturday (22 April).
