The racing world is in deep shock and the paddock is enveloped in sorrow at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. French Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert succumbed to his injuries following a crash at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday. The F2 races have been cancelled for the weekend, but the Formula 1 race will push through.

"Formula 1, Formula 2, and Formula 3 are deeply saddened by the passing of Anthoine Hubert following a horrific crash at today's Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, involving three other drivers," read the official statement at the Formula 2 website.

Hubert drove for the Arden Formula 2 team, and had already won races in Monaco and Le Castellet this season. He is also the reigning GP3 champion. At only 22 years old, he had a bright future ahead of him and looked like he had a sure path to Formula 1. Sadly, the tragic accident has snuffed out any hope of a promising future.

While the Formula 2 race has been cancelled, the Formula 1 race will push through on Sunday. It has been declared that the Belgian Grand Prix will be staged in honour of Hubert.

Today we race.

We do so with the heaviest of hearts, and we carry the memory of Anthoine throughout.

Just like it was for Anthoine, racing is our passion and our dream. It defines us.

So today we race for Anthoine.

And today, and always, we honour him. pic.twitter.com/46MO41C6aT

Meanwhile, racing fans are closely monitoring the condition of Juan Manuel Correa, whose car barreled into Hubert's during the race. An official update has been posted at the Formula 2 website on Sunday:

"Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver, Juan Manuel Correa, remains in a stable condition at the CHU Liège hospital following yesterday's FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race accident at Spa-Francorchamps. The American suffered fractures to both of his legs and a minor spinal injury in the incident and was airlifted to hospital where he underwent surgery last night."

While Correa was lucky to escape with his life, it looks like he has a long road to recovery ahead of him. The third driver who figure din the crash, Giuliano Alesi, has been declared fit at the medical centre where the drivers were treated after the crash.

The unfortunate incident took place in the second lap of Saturday's F2 feature race. Correa's car hit Hubert's car at high speed, causing a massive wreckage. The resulting chaos caught Alesi out as well.

Formula 1 has issued an obituary to honour the fallen driver:

A “huge talent” who had racing in his blood. https://t.co/UQLM98zOnz
