FA Cup fourth round replay as it happened: Bolton 1-2 Liverpool
And that's it. Bolton were within five minutes of causing another FA Cup shock until Raheem Sterling found a late equaliser. That set the stage for Philippe Coutinho, in the week he signed a new long-term deal with the club, to score a sensational injury time winner and ensure Liverpool remain in the hunt for domestic silverware.
Neil Dann's red card with half an hour left to play did not help their cause, but Bolton can count themselves unfortunate this evening.
What a chance for Bolton to make it two! Gudjohnson drives forward from the half way line before laying off to Mills who sprays the ball wonderfully out to the right where Feeney has popped up on the wing. His cross is again excellent, floated in towards the near post where Gudjohnson is unmarked, but his weak header doesn't trouble Mignolet.
Sterling denied twice! Coutinho springs the Bolton back line on the counter, feeding Sterling who advances into the box from the left. Just as he swings his leg back to shoot however Dervite slides in to make a wonderful challenge and knock the ball away.
Sterling is back onto the loose ball in a flash though and looks to curl one into the far top corner, only to be denied by a fine save from Lonergan
Bolton applying the pressure in the closing minutes of the half, launching cross after cross into the box. The latest is half cleared to Dann about 30 yards out who drives an shot on goal. It deflects and almost breaks to Wheater who is jumping in for the header but Mignolet is out bravely to bat away.
The winner of tonight's match faces a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace in the fifth round. Having conceded six goals in their last to visits to that particular corner of south east London, it's hardly an ideal draw awaiting for Liverpool if they get a result this evening.
Last night saw Manchester United, Preston North End and Sunderland book their places in the next round. This is how the draw looks:
Crystal Palace v Liverpool or Bolton Wanderers
Arsenal v Middlesbrough
Aston Villa v Leicester City
West Brom v West Ham
Bradford City v Sunderland
Blackburn Rovers v Stoke City
Derby County v Reading
Preston North End v Manchester Utd
Brendan Rodgers is taking no risks this evening. Just the two changes from the side that beat West Ham on the weekend with Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen stepping in for Jordan Henderson and Lucas. Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini all take a place on the bench.
Liverpool team to face Bolton: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Allen, Gerrard, Moreno, Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling
Subs: Ward, Johnson, Lambert, Henderson, Sturridge, Manquillo, Borini
After being rested in the weekend victory over West Ham United, Steven Gerrard is expected to make his 700th appearance for the club this evening.
And after making his first appearance since August 2014 on Saturday, Daniel Sturridge could also be in line to make his full return, if Brendan Rodgers is ready to take a risk on his talismanic striker.
Liverpool's next games are against Everton (A), Tottenham (H), Southampton (A), Manchester City (H) with home and away clashes with Europa League opponents Besiktas dotted in between. That run without Sturridge leading the line would be far from ideal for the Reds whose seven match unbeaten run has seen them close the gap on the top four.
A resolute Bolton held Brendan Rodgers' side to a goalless draw in late-January and will be confident of providing another stern test at the Macron Stadium this evening.
Neil Lennon's side have not been beaten at home since October when they lost to Championship leaders Bournemouth. Their only other defeats on their own turf this season have come against Derby and Middlesbrough, who sit second and third respectively.
