While 2015 spelled success for unique and off-beat scripts for India's Hindi cinema industry, Bollywood 2016 is set for some big-budget releases. Mainstream Bollywood actors like Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who remained absent from the movie scene in 2015 are set to have big releases in the coming year.

IBTimes UK takes a look at some of the biggest Bollywood films to watch out for in 2016.

Fan

Shah Rukh Khan's film is based on the life of the Bollywood global icon and will see him in a double role — as himself and as a loyal fan of the star. Three-time Academy Award winner make-up artist Greg Cannom has been roped in to make Khan look like his wannabe doppelganger in the film. The biopic-like film will be directed by Maneesh Sharma of Band Baaja Baarat fame.

Release Date: 15 April

Raees

The year 2016 is set be a double-whammy for the Dilwale star who will be seen yet again in the crime-thriller Raees directed by Rahul Dholakia set in the 1980s. The film also has critically acclaimed star Nawazuddin Siddiqui and marks the Bollywood debut of Pakistani actor Mahira Khan. Shah Rukh Khan will also co-produce the movie along with Excel Entertainment.

Release Date: 8 July — Eid time

Mohenjo Daro

Set in the ancient Indus Valley civilization, the film stars Hrithik Roshan along with former Miss India Pooja Hegde. The epic adventure-romance film produced and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker of Oscar nominated Lagaan fame will also get backing from Disney making it one of the costliest Bollywood films of 2016 with an estimated budget of Rs 1bn ($15m).

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Commercially successful film maker Karan Johar's next directorial venture after more than four years will feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in pivotal roles. The film will be shot extensively in London, Vienna, New York and other international cities.

Release Date: 28 October — Diwali weekend

Rangoon

Directed by critically acclaimed Vishal Bhardwaj, the film will bring together the trio of Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan. Bharadwaj and Kapoor will look to recreate the magic of their last hit Haider. The movie is said to be a love-triangle set in the backdrop of World War II.

Release Date: 14 October

Sultan

Salman Khan who recently celebrated his 50<sup>th birthday will play a wrestler in the movie. The sports drama produced by Yash Raj Films will be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and will feature Randeep Hooda as Khan's coach.

Jagga Jasoos

Jagga Jasoos starring rumoured couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif revolves around a gifted young detective's quest to find his missing father with the help of his assistant. The film will be directed by Anurag Basu of the immensely successful Barfi.

Release Date: 3 June

Dangal

Aamir Khan has reserved his spot for the year-end as he will return to the screen after two years with yet another sports drama after Salman's Sultan. The movie is based on the life of an Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and will be produced by Disney and directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
