'Feeling the heat, Donny?': Trump ruthlessly roasted after his Twitter 'meltdown' over the weekend
Twitter couldn't help but mock the president over his "epic meltdown" with a slew of jokes, memes and sarcastic comments.
US President Donald Trump is once again being ruthlessly roasted on Twitter after his "epic meltdown" in a series of tweets posted over the weekend. The president's eyebrow-raising posts came after his former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday (1 December) to lying to the FBI.
Special counsel Robert Mueller, along with multiple congressional committees, are currently investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Trump's campaign team and the Kremlin.
Flynn is the fourth person connected to Trump's campaign and the first member of his administration to be charged as part of Mueller's investigation.
"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those to those lies," Trump wrote on Saturday. "It is a shame because his actions during the transition was lawful. There was nothing to hide!"
"So General Flynn lies to the FBI and his life is destroyed, while Crooked Hillary Clinton, on that now famous FBI holiday "interrogation" with no swearing in and no recording, lies many times...and nothing happens to her? Rigged system, or just a double standard?"
The tweet immediately triggered waves of shock and serious questions with legal experts questioning if it suggested to obstruction of justice.
Experts pointed out that if Trump knew that Flynn had lied to the FBI when he asked then FBI director James Comey to drop the investigation, it could lead to obstruction of justice charges.
Trump's lawyer John Dowd later said that he drafted the tweet for Trump. However, many questioned this claim saying a lawyer would not have written "pled" instead of "pleaded" in the tweet.
Twitter could not help but mock the president over his "epic meltdown" and "incriminating tweets" with a cornucopia of jokes, memes and sarcastic comments.
He also took aim at the Justice Department, his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, the FBI and Comey in a series of tweets.
"He's unraveling for all to see," one Twitter user wrote. Another person said Trump's "desperation is showing."
"Donald Trump tweeted 3 times this morning about Hillary Clinton's emails. In other words, Robert Mueller is getting really close to taking down the most CORRUPT PRESIDENT IN HISTORY," one person going by the name "Proud Resister" tweeted.
Journalist Kurt Eichenwald tweeted: "White House blaming John Dowd for @Potus's "I confess" tweet. I call BS. I know Dowd. Smart as a whip lawyer. He wouldn't give a damn what Twitter world thinks of Flynn charges. Thats pure Trump. WH blaming Dowd is transparent attempt 2 hide lie with attorney/client privilege."
"By the end of all this, the White House is going to need a YUGE bus...so it can fit all the people Trump will have thrown under it," Star Trek star George Takei tweeted.
