The Red Devils miserably failed to make their boss's 70th birthday a memorable one.

In one of the biggest surprises of the season, Blackburn Rovers shocked Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve.

Ayegbeni Yakubu scored the opener on 16 minutes from a penalty shot. The Nigerian scored again on 51 minutes giving the Rovers a clear edge. But, Dimitar Berbatov returned the compliment in the very next minute. The Bulgarain striker scored again on 62 minutes to level the tally. But Grant Hanley's finish just 10 minutes from time sealed the victory in favour of the Rovers.

Fergie's side missed out on the chance to top the Premier League table, whereas the Rovers climbed up to the 18<sup>th slot.
