Overview
Iran made it to the World Cup after defeating South Korea in their last qualifying game 1-0. Reza Ghoochannejhad's solitary goal away from home last June helped the Asian side to seal a place in the summer tournament in Brazil.
Former Manchester United assistant and Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz is leading Iran in the World Cup, after taking over in 2011. The Portuguese boss would be crucial for his side to progress to Round of 16 of this year's World Cup.
Nigeria made it to the summer tournament after defeating Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate in the play-offs. Stephen Keshi saw his men register a 1-2 win away, before sealing a comfortable 2-0 victory at home.
During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Nigeria failed to win their first two games before settling for a 2-2 draw against South Korea in their final fixture. This resulted in the African side's elimination from the group stages of the tournament in the previous edition.
What Managers Say
Carlos Queiroz (Iran): "The economic and political situations have put a team from Iran at the complete disadvantage in relation to other teams that are here."
Stephen Keshi (Nigeria): "For the Iran game we have to be focused. We have to concentrate and do our job. We're not going to take Iran lightly because they're not going to take us lightly."
