Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: Producer Says 'Fresh Face is Appropriate' for Christian Grey Role
Fifty Shades of Grey producer Michael De Luca said a newcomer will be perfect to play Christian Grey, in the film version of EL James's best-selling erotic novel.
The producer of Oscar-winning film The Social Network talked about the movie at the Hollywood Film Awards, before accepting a film-making prize in Beverly Hills, California.
"I feel like everyone has an idea of what these characters look like and sound like, so to present the world with fresh faces where no pre-conceived notions or baggage come with it is best," he told to Los Angeles Times, "It's like casting Superman or James Bond. A fresh face is appropriate."
Meanwhile, Irish actor/model Jamie Dornan has been confirmed to play Grey, opposite Dakota Johnson, daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.
Previously, it was reported that the 31-year-old had a successful test read with the casting directors.
"I happen to think Dakota could have chemistry with a mailbox," De Luca said, "But we're going to help her out and hook her up with the right person."
Fifty Shades of Grey film will release in the United States on 1 July next year. British visual artist and film-maker Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing a script written by Kelly Marcel.
