Fifty Shades Of Grey: Jamie Dornan to reprise his role as Christian Grey in movie sequel
Jamie Dornan is set to reprise his role as Christian Grey in the sequel to Fifty Shades Of Grey. The news will placate fans of the blockbuster movie adaptation of EL James's erotic novel who were left crestfallen at reports doing the rounds that the British actor had ruled out any future outings in the raunchy franchise.
Dornan's representative released the news that is sure to put a smile back on the faces of fans of the star.
The statement read: "Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film."
A representative for the studio behind the film added: "All press reports are pure conjecture as the studio has not committed to a sequel as yet."
Despite the studio's guarded disclaimer, if anyone is going to bring Christian Grey's sexual antics back to the big screen, Dornan is the man for the job.
The Hollywood heartthrob is likely to return as the enigmatic corporate executive in Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, parts two and three in the successful trilogy by the British novelist.
It had been rumoured that the 32-year-old actor had felt compelled to turn down a possible sequel out of respect for his wife Amelia Warner, who was said to be less than keen on his role as the domineering, BDSM-loving businessman. Dornan had earlier revealed in an in interview with the Evening Standard that his wife was uncomfortable with the graphic sex scenes that he shares with co-star Dakota Johnson.
He said: "[Amelia] hasn't seen the film and I don't think she will, to be honest, I'd understand if she didn't want to."
Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the possibility that Dornan's turn as Christian Grey was over.
"Was going to go see Fifty again today, but I think I'll hold off now until I know if @JamieDornan will continue," wrote one fan of the British star.
Another added: "Jamie Dornan won't appear in the next films of 50 Shades because his wife don't like it ... #whipped divorce her man."
"Surely Jamie Dornan's wife knew what to expect when he signed up for 50 Shades? I mean the books are hardly fluffy clouds and rainbows," said another disgruntled fan.
Dornan's alleged departure also followed claims that director Sam Taylor-Johnson has quit the franchise following a series of disputes with author James.
The Sun claim that the British director is keen to leave the franchise due to her constant on-set feuds with the author, despite previously claiming that she had 'signed on' to work on the sequels.
The director and James, who signed a £3m ($5m) deal with Universal and Focus Films giving them the rights to her trio of books, which also gave her creative control of the movies - are said to have clashed over the sex scenes as the author wanted to make the movie as explicit as the book.
"I have a feeling discussions are going on behind closed doors but I've heard nothing so I'm as in the dark as everybody else on this," the director revealed in a recent interview with The Independent.
In a previous interview, Taylor-Johnson admitted filming the controversial movie with the writer's involvement was a trying exercise.
"It was difficult, I'm not going to lie," she revealed. "We would have proper on-set barneys and I'm not confrontational. But it was about finding a way between the two of us."
Fifty Shades Of Grey became the US' biggest February opening of all time raking in $93m at the box office.
