Final Fantasy 15 animated feature film announced starring Game Of Thrones' Sean Bean and Lena Headey
Square Enix and Sony Pictures have announced a feature film tie-in for highly-anticipated RPG Final Fantasy 15, releasing a teaser trailer and revealing the first details regarding its plot and cast. Titled Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy 15, the film was announced at last night's Uncovered live-stream event.
Kingsglaive will tell the story of crown prince Noctis's father, King Regis, and the political events that lead to war in the kingdom of Lucis - kick-starting the events of the game. According to Square Enix: "The animated feature weaves together the complexities of kingdoms of war, royal relationships and epic battles in a tale that will set the stage for the main Final Fantasy 15 narrative."
An all-star voice cast has been assembled including Lena Headey and Sean Bean, who play Cersei and Ned Stark on Game Of Thrones, as Princess Luna and King Regis, respectively. Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad will voice a character called Nyx.
This is not the first time Square Enix has released a full-length film for the beloved series. Kingsglaive's director Takeshi Nozue also who co-directed Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children in 2005.
"Advent Children was for people who had played the game and know the game, whereas the sole purpose of Kingsglaive is to get more people to get to know the universe of Final Fantasy 15," Nozue told Gamespot.
"People who may not know much about Final Fantasy or 15 can get interested through Kingsglaive, which is meant to garner a wider appeal for the game. In that sense, the way we've developed Kingsglaive is close to that for a true theatrical release. We want Kingsglaive to be an entry point into the Final Fantasy 15 universe."
In addition to the CGI film, Square Enix has released a five-part prequel anime series, a Platinum Demo and a story trailer for the upcoming game. The film will launch in summer via digital distribution by Sony Pictures.
