Five Guys voted UK's favourite fast food chain ahead of Nando's, KFC, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Burger King
Five Guys has been voted as the UK's favourite fast food chain. The American burger company came ahead of fast food peers including Nando's, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, KFC and Burger King, according to a Market Force Information poll.
In the poll, 4,565 UK customers were asked to rank the fast food chains on quality of food, dining experience, staff friendliness and restaurant cleanliness. They were also asked how likely they were to recommend them to friends.
Five Guys ranking at the top marks an impressive achievement for a burger chain which opened its first UK restaurant in July 2013. The chain which claims to have fans such as President Barack Obama has the backing of Charles Dunstone, the Carphone Warehouse millionaire.
Five Guys opened its first restaurant in 2013 near Covent Garden. Today it is present in 41 UK sites. While this shows the rapid expansion the company has undertaken, it has a lot of catching up when compared to the US, where it has a presence in more than 1,000 sites.
Taking its name from the five Murrell brothers who founded the company, Five Guys offers a menu that is limited in the number of burgers and hot dogs. However, considering the different toppings it offers, a customer can choose from 2,500 possible combinations. This USP of the company helped it to lure customers away from Byron, Honest, Lucky Chip, Shake Shack and other upmarket burger competitors.
While the date of the poll by Market Force Information is not known, it is understood that apart from ranking fast food chains, the poll was also used to rank the country's cafes and sandwich chains. Customers have voted Pret a Manger as not only the UK's favourite café but also the favourite sandwich chain, according to The Telegraph.
