The Flash: Dope star Kiersey Clemons cast as female lead Iris West
In the DC Comics, West is known as Allen's wife and mother of Dan and Dawn, the Tornado Twins
Any movie fan would think that Warner Bros Pictures and DC Entertainment could not offer any more surprises following San Diego Comic-Con last weekend (21 - 24 July). But as it turns out, on top of releasing first-look trailers to both Wonder Woman and Justice League, they were sitting on yet another reveal... the fact that actress Kiersey Clemons has been cast as the female lead in upcoming standalone movie The Flash, opposite Ezra Miller.
The 22-year-old Dope star will be seen in the film as Iris West, who is the wife of Barry Allen aka The Flash and aunt to Wally West, whose is also known as Kid Flash and later assumes The Flash mantle himself in the original comics. Her own children are known in the stories as the Tornado Twins, Don and Dawn Allen, while also within her timeline she becomes grandmother to Bart Allen (aka Impulse), a character related to multiple generations of The Flash legacy.
At the moment, Clemons is only officially signed on to appear in The Flash's solo movie, however, rumours have already suggested she might be introduced in Justice League beforehand, which is scheduled to reach UK and US cinemas on 17 November 2017 and sees Allen team with the likes of Aquaman, Cyborg, Wonder Woman and Batman. Not slated to reach big screens worldwide until March 2018, the exact plot for The Flash remains under wraps but director Rick Famuyiwa is reportedly working with a script from Seth Grahame-Smith based on a story by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Clemons was most recently seen in TV series Transparent and New Girl as well as sequel Bad Neighbours 2 alongside Chloe Grace Moretz and Zac Efron. She is currently filming Flatliners, a remake of the 1990 sci-fi film with Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna and Kiefer Sutherland.
