Former Manchester United star Diego Forlan has urged his Uruguayan team-mate Luis Suarez to consider a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Suarez's future at Anfield is once again under increasing scrutiny after reports in Spain last week claimed Barcelona have earmarked him as their main summer target – with Real Madrid also monitoring the situation.

Recent reports even claimed Suarez had already informed his close friends that he wanted to snub the Champions League winners and instead sign for their arch-rivals Barcelona.

And now international team-mate Forlan has added fuel to the rumours about the Liverpool hitman's move away from Merseyside during a recent interview with AS.

Asked about whether Suarez would fit at Real Madrid, Forlan said: "Without a doubt, he is one of the best in the world.

"He is a player who is in great physical and footballing condition and it would be very good for him to play at Real Madrid.

"There are some big attacking players and you can name Luis as one of them. He is alongside Messi, Cristiano, Ibrahimovic. All are huge and to choose between one or the other is a matter of taste," the former Old Trafford striker said.

Earlier this season Forlan claimed the Liverpool striker had already asked him for advice over his future.

"We spoke a few days ago. He asked me if I think he should stay at Liverpool. All I told him was to think about going to Manchester United. I know he loves Liverpool, the fans and the city, but I think the best thing for his career would be to move to Old Trafford."
