Galaxy Note 8.0 N5100 Receives Official Android 4.2.2 [Manually Install]
Android 4.2.2 update with build version XXCMH1 has released for Galaxy Note 8.0 N5100
Following the leak of Android 4.2.2 test firmware, Samsung has finally started rolling out a Jelly Bean software update for the 3G variant of the Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5100). The roll-out begins after an Android 4.2.2 update for the LTE version of the Note 8.0.

The official build, with base firmware XXCMH1, brings Android 4.2.2 for the Note 8.0, which runs Android 4.1.2 out of the box. The update brings an array of features such as lockscreen widgets, dedicated toggles menu in status bar, improved task switching, Daydream screensaver mode and performance enhancements. It also integrates new widgets, homescreen and more features from the Galaxy S4, according to Sammobile.
XXCMH1 Android 4.2.2 is available for Note 8.0 users in Germany and is expected to reach other regions soon. Users can access the update both as an Over-The-Air (OTA) trasnfer or through KIES. Since N5100XXCMH1 is an unbranded version of firmware, it can be installed on any unlocked GT-N5100 unit (except those from China, Hong King and Taiwan).

Pre-Requites
- Install USB driver for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to transfer files between Android device and computer
- Enable USB debugging mode on tablet to connect Android device with computer and use Android SDK [Press Menu > Settings > Applications. From there navigate and click on Development and check USB debugging mode]
- Tutorial is likely to wipe all data off tablet, so create a backup. If device has a custom recovery like CWM/TWRP already installed, then backup data using the recovery
- Galaxy Note should have above 80% battery charge
- Tablet should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier
- Device will lose custom ROM with installation of official firmware. Additionally, it will lose custom recovery, which will be replaced by stock recovery
- Note 8.0 will no longer be rooted once official update is installed
- XXCMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean official update works only on 3G variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5100). Flashing on an incorrect variant might brick device, so verify model number by selecting Settings > About dDevice > Model number
Steps to Install XXCMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy Note 8.0 (N5100)
Step-1: Download XXCMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean official update for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to computer
Step-2: Extract downloaded firmware zip using wizrar/7zip/winzip or other extracting tool to get file with .tar.md5 extension
Step-3: Download Odin 3.07. Extract Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe
Step-4: Turn off Note 8.0 and wait for five to six seconds for vibration to confirm complete shutdown
Step-5: Boot Note into Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down and Home buttons and then pressing Power until device turns on. Now press Volume up to continue into Download mode
Step-6: Run Odin3 v3.07.exe as Administrator (to do so, right click on Odin.exe file and click Run as administrator from menu)
Step-7: Connect Galaxy Note 8.0 to computer using USB cable while it is in Download mode. Wait till Odin detects device. When device is connected, a message saying Added will appear at the bottom left of the Odin screen. Also, the ID: COM box in Odin will turn blue with the COM port number, indicating successful connection
Note: If Added message does not appear, try connecting to USB port at rear of computer. If Odin still fails to recognise device, then re-install USB driver
Step-8: Select these files extracted from N5100XXCMH1 folder to install on tablet
- Click the PDA button and select file with .tar.md5 extension
- Click the Phone button and select file with Modem in its name
- Click the CSC button and select file with CSC in its name
- Click the PIT button and select .pit file
- Note: Ignore last three steps (b, c and d) if such files are not found
Steps-9: Ensure Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected in Odin but uncheck Re-Partition; select only when .pit file is used
Step-10: Double check and click Start in Odin. The installation process should now begin and will take a few minutes to complete
Step-11: When installation process is complete, tablet will automatically restart. A PASS message (against a green background) will appear in a box at the extreme left of Odin's screen, indicating successful installation. Unplug USB cable from device to disconnect from computer
N5100XXCMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update should now be installed and running on Galaxy Note 8.0. To verify new software version of device, navigate to Settings>> About device
How to Fix Bootloop Issue
If Galaxy Note 8.0 is stuck at booting animation (after Step-11) go to recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons. In recovery mode, perform data wiping task by selecting Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Now select Wipe Cache Partition and once action is complete, reboot tablet by selecting Reboot System Now. In recovery mode, use Volume keys to scroll between options and Power to select desired option. It should be noted that performing a wiping task will erase contents of internal memory.
