Game of Thrones
Jaime and Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Season 4 ended with quite a shocking turn of events, the repercussions of which might form the basis for Season 5's first few episodes.

Tyrion Lannister managed to escape death with the help of his brother, Jaime. But little did Jaime know that the imp would end up murdering their father and Hand of the King, Tywin Lannister, before leaving Westeros. This means that Season 5 will begin with some major political upheaval.

Zap2it spoke with Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (who plays Jaime Lannister) at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, and asked him what Jaime's reaction to Tywin's death will be:

"Shock," he replied. "Because that was not the plan. The plan was to help Tyrion escape."

Even though Jaime supported Tyrion through the trial and helped him escape, he wasn't hoping for his father's death. "No matter what Tywin has done, I think Jaime still loves his father because he's his father, and he certainly didn't want him dead," Coster-Waldau said.

"Also, on a political scale it's a disaster because Tywin was so powerful," the Danish actor added.

"[Jaime] understands that it is not good for the safety of Cersei and Tommen and the Lannisters."

No doubt that post Tywin's death, King's Landing stands at a very vulnerable position. Without the experienced Tywin and the shrewd, cunning Tyrion, it remains to be seen what fate awaits the capital.
