Game of Thrones season 5 finale episode director talks about shocking death scene and addresses fan theories
Warning: Big spoiler for Game of Thrones season 5 finale ahead
Jon Snow fans just don't want to let go. Ever since the Game of Thrones season 5 finale aired last Sunday, fans of the departed character have been hard at work putting out theories which suggest that Jon is indeed alive and will return in season 6.
Resurrection of a character is not new to Game of Thrones, with the most recent example showing up in the season 5 finale episode itself where a "zombified" version of The Mountain returned as Cersei's avenger. So, is there any chance that Jon Snow will be back in action in the next season?
In an interview with Variety, GoT season 5 finale episode director David Nutter set the record straight saying: "I can say emphatically that Jon Snow is definitely dead.
"Kit Harington is just a great guy and Kit was sad to leave the crew. It's an emotional feeling as well. But I felt it was important to set up the sequence as quickly as possible so you didn't expect it or wait for it. I didn't want it to linger. I wanted it to catch you by surprise. My concern was to take care of Jon Snow, and he's now deader than dead," he added.
And if that's not enough, a recent statement by Harington himself put the final nail in the coffin. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actor stated: "I've been told I'm dead. I'm not coming back next season. So that's all I can tell you, really."
Game of Thrones season 6 is expected to premiere in April 2016.
