Game Of Thrones season 6: Did Kit Harington disguise 'Daenerys dies' spoiler as joke?

Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington has reignited speculation that a major character will die in upcoming episodes of the HBO fantasy. The 29-year-old actor, who plays Jon Snow, sent tongues wagging after he joked about Daenerys Targaryen being killed off during a recent radio interview.

He admitted growing so tired of fans asking for spoilers that he resorted to making up details about the hit show. "It always amazes me when people come up to me and ask what's happening for the rest of the season?" he said. "If I actually came out and told you, you'd hate me for it. I've started just lying to people. If they ask what happens this season I say, 'Well, Daenerys dies, Tyrion loses a leg.' I just go all out."

While its clear his comment was intended as a joke, history has shown that Harington can be economical with the truth where Game of Thrones is concerned. The 29-year-old was grilled for months about the fate of his character, after viewer's watched Ned Stark illegitimate son fatally stabbed by members of the Night Watch at the end of season five. And he insisted that it was the end for Lord Commander.

In May, he apologised to fans, telling Entertainment Weekly he was sorry for not admitting that the Bastard of Winterfell would be resurrected. "I'd like to say sorry for lying to everyone," he said. I'm glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, 'Fine, Jon Snow's dead'. But it seems like people had a similar reaction to the Red Wedding episode (third season), with a kind of grief about it. Which means something I'm doing – or what the show is doing – is right."

Considering rumours (circulating since season 4) that Daenerys – played by Emilia Clarke – would meet a gruesome end, fans have taken Harington's gag as further proof of her imminent demise. A quick scan of Twitter confirms that many are not keen on the idea of the Mother Of Dragons being killed off.

"Daenerys has been getting more and more attractive for the entire five seasons I've been watching if she dies I'm quitting this series,"one fan said. Another added:"Uhhh if Daenerys Targaryen (Mother of Dragons) dies this season I will literal jump into a volcano. #GameofThrones"
