Overview
Germany had to come from behind twice to hold Mexico to a 2-2 draw and will be looking to start the next game on a better note. Arsenal's Serge Gnabry's goal for the world champions kept the contest level at 1-1 as the European side look to end their medal drought in the Olympics for almost three decades, having last won a bronze in Seoul in 1988.
After going 2-1 down, the Germans pressed for another equaliser and it was Gnabry yet again who opened an opportunity after an interesting run and shot which hit the side netting. The resulting corner by Brandt's met Matthias Ginter, whose powerful header found the back of the net on 78 minutes..
South Korea played out the most dominant game in the tournament, beating Fiji 8-0 in a completely one-sided affair. The game against Germany will provide a clearer view of the country's prospects going forward but it showed that the Asian side are no pushovers in what is widely regarded to be a contest between the South Americans and the Europeans.
