Google Android 5.0 OS update: Rollout officially extends to Micromax Unite 2 smartphones
Google's Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS update is now on an extended rollout path and is available to newer smartphones across the world. One such device is the 2014 Micromax Unite 2 for which the new firmware upgrade is now seeding.
Announcing the rollout of Android Lollipop OS update officially, Micromax states that the firmware will be available automatically via OTA and users can check for the OS update at the earliest.
Earlier, Micromax had stated that it would seed Android Lollipop to its Unite 2 users in April. This announcement had led to loyalists anticipating the official seeding of Android Lollipop for their devices.
Now, with the latest rollout being announced by Micromax, Unite 2 users have lots to cheer about.
Users of Micromax Unite 2 in India can check their handsets for Android Lollipop that should be available automatically via OTA.
However, the latest OS upgrade can also be searched for manually, downloaded and installed. To manually search for Lollipop, users can navigate to Settings > About Phone > Software Update, in their respective smartphones.
New enhancements brought along by Android Lollipop, to Micromax Unite 2 users:
- Material Design: Material design offers fluid animations, vivid coloured themes and 3D-views.
- Improved Lockscreen: Shortcuts for both Phone and Camera are provided, along with material design-inspired notifications.
- Touchwiz: Brighter look and feel, bold colours, fluid animation inspired by Material Design.
- Floating Action Button: Floating action buttons provide easy access to the app's most important features, such as adding a new contact or favourite, or composing a text message.
- Interruptions: Priority notifications such as events and reminders, phone calls, and messages can be set up to sound or vibrate while all other notifications are muted.
- Recents: Easy access to your Chrome tabs right from the Recent apps page. Multi-window icons for ease of use during multi-tasking.
- Activation of 'OK Google' voice command: With OK Google, it is possible to issue voice commands to smartphones.
- Battery saving features: Indicates remaining time left to charge.
Prior to the latest Android Lollipop firmware update, Micromax's Unite 2 smartphones ran the now outdated Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) out of the box.
