Gorgeous Mirror's Edge: Catalyst gameplay debuts at EA Gamescom press conference
EA showed off a brand new extended look at Mirror's Edge: Catalyst in action during their Gamescom 2015 press conference in Cologne, Germany. The footage was introduced by Sara Jansson, senior producer at developers DICE.
The gameplay comes from an early mission which sets protagonist Faith off on her story. It was impressive and gorgeous, showing off the game's flowing first person free-running movement and its close quarters, weapon-free combat.
You can watch the gameplay demo below....
Catalyst is the follow-up to and soft reboot of the original cult classic released in November 2008. Many feared the new game might increase the focus on guns (a weaker element of the original) but Catalyst gets rid of them entirely.
The environments in the new game also look different. The original utilised a lot of clean white surfaces with red objects marking the way. Catalyst's environments look more realistic but still gorgeous in that same clean and crisp way.
Combat also appears more robust, aided by improved physics and use of the environment. Using a wall to run along before delivering a kick was standard in the original, but here Faith also hurls herself around poles and from great heights to land on an enemy.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst is heading to PS4, Xbox One and PC on 25 February 2016.
