Gravity Falls returning for season 3? Alex Hirsch hints at the possibility of 'comic or a special' episode
Hints of new episodes of the Emmy winning series will make fans happy
There is some good news for the fans of Gravity Falls, as show creator Alex Hirsch has hinted at the possibility of doing more episodes in the future. Dipper and Mabel Pines may return to the Mystery Shack for new adventures alongside Grunkle Stan and Ford Stan.
Hirsch said the series might return with its third season. He told TV Insider: "I do love these characters and that's part of why I didn't want to continue forever. I wouldn't want to take them to a place I didn't believe in.
"That being said, it's not inconceivable that one day we may return to this world because they are such rich characters, and with a little bit of time away from it, it's possible there may be a special or something."
The creator explained that the finale episode had some future plot threats, which could be addressed in a special episode. Hirsch explained: "But I think when people watch the final episode, they will see threads in that episode that one imagines could potentially be addressed in some future form, whether it's in a comic or a special, or it's something a 100 years after I die with robots reconstructing the show and remaking it themselves. Right now, I'm content with where it is, but I can't say what Future Alex may do. We'll just have to wait and see."
In the season 2 finale episode titled Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls, Dipper and Mabel defeated evil overlord Bill Cipher, thanks to an ultimate sacrifice from Grunkle and were able to restore their town to the way it was.
Twin brothers Grunkle and Ford reunited and decided to take a trip together to the Pacific, as for Dipper and Mabel, they left for California after a tearful goodbye to all their friends in Gravity Falls. The finale episode dropped several hints that the show will return.
Wendy's going away gift for Dipper, which had a picture Gravity Falls with "see you next summer", hints that the Emmy-winning animated series will return.
