Greenwich fire: Despair among south London party-goers as nightclub Studio 338 burns down
Fans of the Studio 338 nightclub took to Twitter to express their shock as the nightclub erupted in flames.
One hundred firefighters and officers were called to tackle a huge fire in north Greenwich on 8 August. The fire is affecting a recycling yard, some industrial units, and a pub that is believed to be the popular Studio 338 venue on Tunnel Avenue.
Huge flames and thick black smoke was seen rising hundreds of metres into the air above the nightclub, with many taking to Twitter to post videos and images of the rear end Studio 338 on fire. At least 15 fire engines were called to the scene at 11.40am, deploying cranes to douse the flames.
When the nightclub opened in March 2014, it was dubbed "London's biggest nightclub" with a capacity of 3,000 people. The club describes themselves as an "Ibiza-style mega-club" and boasts of hosting some of the biggest names in electronic music.
According to Resident Advisor, their most recent event on 7 August – just one day before the fire – attracted roughly 2,000 people. As news of the fire broke, many took to Twitter to mourn the loss of their popular party spot, while others commented on the possibility of the fire being an "insurance scam".
Studio 338's "Beach Fiesta Part 2" is scheduled to be held on 13 August from 2pm until 6am, however, it is now unlikely to go ahead. Managers of Studio 6 are yet to comment on the situation.
