Justin Bieber's 'friend' Hailee Steinfeld gives the lowdown on their special relationship

The grapevine has been buzzing with rumours that Justin Bieber was secretly dating Hailee Steinfeld.

As the Met Gala rounded off, Bieber was spotted leaving Catch NYC with Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz. According to TMZ, Lentz introduced the two stars as each both attend his church. The Pitch Perfect 2 actor has come forward to spill the beans on her relationship with the Love Yourself singer.

Speaking on Sirius XM's Morning Mash Up on 3 May, the 20-year-old singer clarified that she was simply friends with Bieber. "I am not [dating Bieber]...I don't know why people make such a big deal," she said when asked about the rumours. "We're friends...We've been friends for years, and yeah."

TMZ earlier reported that the Starving singer was dating the 23-year-old and the two had "been seeing each other for a little over a month". Refinery29, however, mentioned that Steinfeld is currently in a relationship with her boyfriend Cameron Smoller and the couple were last seen together on the red carpet for a W Magazine event in January.

While Steinfeld is busy promoting her music in the US, Bieber is facing severe criticism in India where he is set to perform on 10 May as part of his Purpose World Tour. People were shocked after the singer's list of demands for his India tour was posted on Twitter. These included a backstage Jacuzzi, "special Indian Yoga Casket containing aromatic essential oils" and luxury transport among other requirements.
