Halo 5 Guardians opening cinematic introduces Spartan Locke and Fireteam Osiris
Microsoft has released the opening cinematic from upcoming shooter Halo 5: Guardians ahead of its October release exclusively on Xbox One. Notably, the video doesn't feature series protagonist Master Chief, instead focusing on the game's other playable character and his squad of Spartan-IV soldiers.
Jameson Locke leads Fireteam Osiris, who in the game will be on the tail of Master Chief and his own Blue Team. Here however Osiris is being tasked with rescuing Catherine Halsey from Covenant forces as colonies around the galaxy suffer catastrophic attacks of Forerunner origin.
You can watch the video below...
It starts off pretty ordinary with Locke, Tanaka, Vale and Buck being briefed on their mission before jumping into a spectacular sequence as they descend onto a battlefield. As they slide down a snowy mountainside they take out Covenant and Promethean forces before a ship crashes behind them and the team leaps towards the camera.
In the full game, the two squads of four will make four-player co-op possible throughout the campaign. Halo 5 is 343 Industries second Halo game that isn't a remake, and the mid-point of what they're calling the Reclaimer Trilogy.
Halo 5: Guardians will be released on 27 October.
