Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State, praised Donald Trump and said that the president-elect could achieve something remarkable in US foreign policy.

In an interview to CBS's Face the Nation, Kissinger said "Donald Trump is a phenomenon that foreign countries haven't seen. So, it is a shocking experience to them that he came into office. At the same time, extraordinary opportunity."

"I believe he has the possibility of going down in history as a very considerable president," the former statesman said.

He further elaborated, "here is a new president who is asking a lot of unfamiliar questions, and because of the combination of the partial vacuum and the new questions, one could imagine that something remarkable and new emerges out of it."

Kissinger, who met with Trump in New York after the election, said that the president-elect's foreign policy could be based on instinct and not theory. "I think he operates by a kind of instinct that is a different form of analysis as my more academic one."

Kissinger served as secretary of state and a national security adviser to ex-presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.

In the latest interview, the 93-year-old also responded to the reports that Russia directed hacks to interfere in the US elections. "I don't doubt that the Russians are hacking us. And I hope we're doing some hacking there."
