British-born filmmaker Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun," "Crimson Tide," and "Enemy of the State," and brother of fellow movie director Ridley Scott tragically jumped to his death yesterday from a bridge over Los Angeles Harbour. Onlookers saw Scott, park his car on the Vincent Thomas Bridge and leap into the water below at about 12:30pm. according to a police spokesman from the coroner's office.

Apart from major film success Scott also directed a number of TV series such as "Numb3rs," which ran on CBS from 2005 to 2010, and "The Good Wife," which premiered in 2009 and is still running in CBS.

A spokeswoman for the filmmaker, Katherine Rowe, said in a brief statement, "I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away," adding only, "The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."
