How to install Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones on any Windows Phone 8.1 device
The first Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones is currently available for Lumia 630, 635, 636, 638, 730 and 830 smartphones, with support for more devices coming in the future preview builds.
But XDA member, RustyGrom has released a hack, using which, Windows 10 Technical Preview can be installed on any Windows Phone 8.1 devices, without the use of a microSD card.
The hack uses FiddleCore to intercept traffic going to the Microsoft server that controls the Windows Insider app and responds with custom data. The app looks for the phone's PhoneManufacturerModelName to decide whether it should be offered the preview build.
Several forum members have confirmed that the hack is working on various Lumia devices including the Lumia 920, 930 and 1520.
"I just used this to install the TP on my Lumia 930 and .. it worked like a charm! phone is booting, OS is working! Thank you very much for the work you put into this! Really excited to try out the Preview now," said a forum member.
RustyGrom has confirmed the hack works fine on his AT&T Lumia 1520, and works with other devices as well, although with some tweaks to the XML.
Check out the following tutorial to install Windows 10 Technical Preview on your Windows Phone 8 devices.
Proceed with extreme caution. There is a good chance this might brick your device. Neither IBTimes UK nor the developer will be held liable for any damage to the device.
