How tough is the iPhone 6s? See what happens when a UFC champion kicks and bends it in a strength test
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have plenty of new features to be excited about but are they tough? MMA fighter Luke Rockhold, currently ranked as the #1 middleweight in the world by the UFC, has decided to take on the king of smartphones to see what it's made of by kicking and bending the latest handsets.
In this 'battery' test Rockhold unleashes some impressive high kicks to the handsets as a plucky volunteer holds from below. Being a professional kickmaker he nails both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which sends them flying into the wall. Despite the use of a stronger Aluminium 7000 body we see them shatter into bits. Rockhold 2, iPhones 0.
The video then moves onto the famous 'bend test' where, after last year's iPhone 6 Plus bendgate scandal, everyone now fancies giving their iPhone a squeeze. Rockhold does more than that as he flexes his muscles to bend both phones with all his might. He succeeds in both cases but it looked like it took some doing.
Rockhold doesn't have a grudge against Apple iPhones and he's not some Android fanboy enacting some cathartic rage. This video was produced by SquareTrade – a company that offers protection plans for mobiles, laptops and tablets against damage.
We must stress we haven't been able to verify the video's claims and whether a round kick to an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus would result in a shattered handset every time. With only one camera angle we are unable to tell whether the smashed mobiles actually came from the kick. The bend test, however, does look more authentic.
Warning: do not let an MMA fighter do this to your iPhone. They may break it.
