I'm A Celebrity: Spencer Matthews quits the jungle after three days due to 'health reasons'
Spencer Matthews has quit I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here. An ITV spokesperson confirmed the news that the reality star had left the Australian jungle after just three days due to health concerns.
The official statement said: "Spencer Matthews has left the jungle. We're sorry to see him leave."
A show source added: "He has left the jungle on medical grounds. He was a great booking and was shaping up to be a great character. We are sorry to see him go."
Spencer, was one of the late additions to the camp alongside fellow reality TV stars TOWIE's Ferne McCann and Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison.
The 26-year-old hadn't even reached the main camp to meet his celebrity campmates having been banished to Snake Rock for the first few days after his arrival.
The trio looked set to liven things up in camp with early signs of a blossoming romance between Spencer and Vicky. While the Made in Chelsea star's reputation for being a TV bad boy precedes him, Vicky had been heard singing his praises, albeit in her own very Georgie sort of way. She said: "Everyone's so sweet and genuinely nice and Spencer is nothing like I thought he'd be. I thought he'd be a posh t***."
The TV lothario had also thrown himself into his tasks revealing a fearless side that boded well for the camp when it came to bushtucker trials. Taking on the Dicing With Danger task, inspired by the board game Snakes and Ladders the 27-year-old took it all in his stride as his head, arms and legs were encased in Perspex boxes and he was deluged in 2000 crickets.
While the critters crawled all over him he said: "They feel revolting," but continued with the trial and he wasn't shy about stripping off after.
Spencer's shock departure comes after TOWIE star Gemma Collins stormed out of camp in last year's series after suffering a meltdown. She also quit camp after just three days after complaining about almost every aspect of the jungle experience. She explained that in the end, her fear of starvation compelled her to finally walk out.
After her dramatic departure Gemma told This Morning that the lack of food was more than she could handle. "All of the coverage was played on the fact that I left because I was starving but I'll be honest with you, I was starving, I'm a plus size girl,' she explained. "I went from eating everything to 500 calories a day and that did affect me. When I would sit down, the room was spinning. All of my blood sugar levels had dropped."
Fans of the show have turned to social media expressing mixed reaction at Spencer's departure after he looked set to become a favourite to win the show.
However his ex Lauren Hutton, who split from the TV star last September after a year, had no sympathy. She slammed the Made in Chelsea star on Twitter writing: "Well that lasted long ... Even your relationships last longer (just). I think I'd make a better contestant."
Her jibe prompted Spencer's best friend Jamie Laing to jump to his defence leading to a vitriolic Twitter spat. Lauren later deleted her original tweet, as fans were left guessing the real reason why Spencer walked out of the I'm A Celebrity jungle.
