India: Politician says Sunny Leone's condom ads will lead to more rapes
Former US porn star-turned-Bollywood actress Sunny Leone has been rapped by an Indian politician for a condom advertisement. Atul Kumar Anjaan of the Communist Party of India has claimed that Leone's Manforce condom ad could lead to a rise in rapes in India.
Anjaan's comment came during an address at Ghazipur in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Ghazipur is about 350km south east of the state capital Lucknow.
He said Leone's Manforce advertisement "develops sexuality and finishes your sensibility." He added: "If such type of ads will be shown on TV and newspaper then no one can stop rapes in India." Anjaan also said he felt disgusted when watching Leone's porn films.
This is not the first time the US actress has landed in a controversy. Pramod Muthalik, a leader of the Hindu right-wing group Sri Ram Sene, previously demanded that Leone be deported. He held Leone's porn videos directly responsible for promoting rapes, kidnapping and murder in Indian society.
Leone, 34, worked in adult films before she appeared in India's biggest reality show Bigg Boss season 5. She made her Bollywood debut with the movie Jism 2 in 2012.
