Overview
Any contest between India and Pakistan is eagerly awaited by the millions of fans all over the world, more so, if it is a World Cup match. In the upcoming game, hosts India could be under added pressure following their dismal performance in the opening match against New Zealand.
The pre-tournament favourites were bowled out for a paltry 79 runs, after restricting the Black Caps to 126. A second loss in the tournament at the hands of their arch rivals will see the hosts struggle to make it to the semi-finals stage of the competition. However, one positive aspect for India is that they have never lost to Pakistan in cricket World Cup history – both 50 and 20-over format.
Pakistan, meanwhile, come into the game following a thumping victory over Bangladesh in the opening encounter at the Eden Gardens, the same venue where they will face their arch nemesis on Saturday. Although, Pakistan may have never beaten India in a World Cup, they have a positive streak on their side as well. India's arch rivals have never lost a game to their neighbours at the famous stadium in Kolkata. Whatever be the result of the game, one of the winning streaks will surely end as the game concludes.
