Indonesia: Farmers Compete in Water Buffalo Chariot Races on Muddy Rice Fields
Indonesian farmers compete in traditional water buffalo chariot races on muddy rice fields. The races, known locally as Barapan Kebo, are held to celebrate the annual rice planting season.
Jockeys balance on small wooden chariots and are dragged through shin-deep mud by a pair of buffaloes at speeds of over 30mph.
Getty Images photographer Ulet Ifansasti captured the action during the Moyo festival on Sumbawa Island.
