Overview
This has been a disastrous IPL for the Daredevils, with seven defeats in eight games. The side from the Indian capital needs a massive turnaround in form and confidence to even begin challenging for a place in the knock-out stages and that looks unlikely.
Delhi were beaten by Kings XI Punjab in their last game, with David Miller's unbeaten 34 off 39 balls and contributions from Mandeep Singh (24 off 15) and David Hussey (20 off 21) leading a successful chase of a very modest 121 run target.
Much of the batting relies on senior internationals Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene and David Warner, all of whom have been inconsistent. With the ball, Indians Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar and Ashish Nehra have been disappointing, while South African spinners Johann Botha and Roelof van der Merwe have been economical but lacking incision.
Meanwhile, the Warriors have fallen hard from the high of beating two-time champions Chennai Super Kings. They've lost all three games since that surprise result and are second from last in the table, with only two wins from eight games.
They come into this fixture probably still scarred from memories of Chris Gayle's brutal assault in the last match. The West Indian hammered 175 off 67 balls to set up a world record total of 263/4 and then returned to take two wickets in the only over he bowled to destroy the batting.
The Warriors rely on Australians Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith to get the runs, with India senior all-rounder Yuvraj Singh backing them. However, of these, only Finch has displayed any consistency in his scores. Singh has had a couple of good starts but equally failed to convert them into match-winning knocks. With the ball, Pune have a good opening bowler in Bhuvneshwar Kumar but lack penetrative and wicket-taking bowlers. Ashok Dinda has picked up a few wickets but no one else has really impressed.
