Overview
Pune have been in abysmal form this season, a scenario which has not been a rare sight since their introduction into the IPL in 2011. The Warriors have finished in the bottom two places in the previous two editions and are looking good to finish in a similar position to last season when they came last. PWI have lost their last four games in the tournament and are major underdogs coming into this game. However, Aaron Finch will look to take confidence from their winagainst Chennai a couple of weeks back and put a concerted effort to better their league position.
Their last game in the tournament ended in a 15 run loss to the Delhi Daredevils (DD) who were languishing at the bottom of the table but have now moved up into eighth spot with the win. The Daredevils put up a competitive score of 164 runs on the board on the back of an unbeaten 51 from 25 balls from David Warner. Ashok Dinda was the pick of the bowlers with the player from Bengal taking three wickets at an economy rate of 7.75. However, the Warriros batting order failed to deliver yet again, succumbing to a score of 149, with six wickets left at the end of 20 overs.
The Warriors are faced with the task of winning their remaining games and hope that other results go their way to have any chance of making it to the knockouts for the first time in their history.
Meanwhile, Chennai have been in brilliant form since their shock loss to Pune at the Chepauk winning their last five games and are looking good to make their way into the knockouts for the sixth year in succession. The two time Champions are currently at the top of the table and a win here will see them go four points ahead of second placed Royal Challengers Bangalore, having played the same number of games.
MS Dhoni's men enters this game after their 14 run win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chepauk owing to some brilliant batting by Michael Hussey to pull the Super Kings to a formidable score of 200 at the end of 20 overs. In reply, the Knight Riders started on a high with Manvinder Bisla scoring 92 of only 61 balls to give KKR an advantage, but the middle order failed to build on the initiative and dropped to their sixth loss in nine games.
