Overview

The Royals suffered their second successive defeat in the seventh edition of the IPL after failing to beat the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven runs on Wednesday. The Jaipur-based outfit restricted M S Dhoni's men to 140 runs in 20 overs.

Rajat Bhatia put in a fine performance with the ball conceding only 13 runs in four overs and taking two wickets.

Paddy Upton's side struggled to chase CSK's total as the top order collapsed without putting up a fight. Bhatia scored 23 off 20 balls and Dhawal Kulkarni hit 28 off 19 as they attempted to pull off a victory. But after the former's dismissal, the task slipped out of their hands as RR lost all their wickets making just 133 runs.

They are currently fifth in the points table with just two points and having a net run rate (NRR) of -0.229.

Meanwhile, RCB were handed their first defeat of the year as they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by just two runs on Thursday. The Bangalore-based team were set a target of 151 runs to secure their third straight victory as Trevor Bayliss's side lost seven wickets.

Varun Aaron was the stellar bowler for the Royal Challengers as he took three wickets while giving away just 16 runs in four overs.

RCB began their chase brightly with Parthiv Patel and Yogesh Takawale. Following the duo's departure after adding 21 and 40 runs respectively to the tally, both Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh contributed 31 runs each before joining the openers in the team dugout.

They were on track to victory but A B de Villiers (11) fell to a spectacular catch by KKR's Chris Lynn near the boundary in the last over.

Needing six runs to win from two balls, Albie Morkel and Mitchell Starc failed.

RCB are third in the points table with four points and hold a NRR of +0.736.
