Iran Attempts and Fails to Shoot Down U.S. Drone
The Pentagon said that a MT-1 U.S. military aircraft surveillance drone, flying on a regular surveillance mission near to the Iranian coast, was intercepted by two Iranian jet fighters. The unmanned aircraft was chased by Tehran's SU-25 "Frogfoot" when it opened "multiple rounds" of fire.
US Pentagon press officer George Little spoke at a press conference about the incident.
This is the first time that an unmanned American aircraft has been shot at over the international waters of the Persian Gulf. Although Tehran had previously captured a US drone which they claimed invaded its territory. So far Tehran is yet to respond officially to the Pentagon allegations.
