Isle of Wight pub installs helipad to attract sky-high drinkers
A couple who run a popular pub on the Isle of Wight have come up with a novel way of attracting new customers – by installing their own helipad. Sam and Donna Shaw, who run The Fighting Cocks in Hale Common, created the helipad in a field close to their premises using a lawnmower in the hope that pilots flying over the island will land for a tipple or two.
Speaking to the Isle of Wight County Press, Sam Shaw said, "There are lots of pilots, especially along the south coast, who charter a helicopter for the day, split the cost and have a day out. We're offering them a destination to drop into for lunch or an evening meal. For us, it's about exploring the opportunities to broaden our client base."
The Fighting Cocks, which was recently named best Isle of Wight pub in the National Pub and Bar Awards, has already seen landings on consecutive days this week.
