Jaguar Land Rover, AstraZeneca and Harrods top UK best employers survey
Jaguar Land Rover has been declared as the best place to work in corporate Britain. This is according to a survey by Statista commissioned by Bloomberg in which about 15,000 employees were questioned about their job satisfaction, with particular emphasis on whether they would recommend their current employer to a potential new employee.
The Coventry-based luxury car maker, which is now owned by the Indian automaker Tata Motors, scored a high of 8.56 on Bloomberg's index of British employers most favoured by their employees. AstraZeneca, the London-based British-Swedish pharma major, with a score of 8.51 managed to grab the second position, while Harrods, the luxury department store now owned by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, followed close behind with a score of 8.49.
The survey that listed the best 400 employers in the UK was conducted between 6 October 2015 and 26 October 2015, through a series of online panels. Employees from 25 industries including automotive, media, oil and gas, construction, retail, and food and drink were asked 35 questions about their employers.
While more than 1,600 UK-based companies that had an employee strength of more than 500 were included in the survey, Bloomberg excluded its direct competitors, finance companies and businesses related to weapons, gambling, tobacco and pornography.
The survey also indicated that 70% of the top 50 employers were British companies. Some of the top ranking non-British companies included Adidas in fourth place, Microsoft in sixth and Nike at 11th place. Another highlight of the survey was that 42% of the 50 best employers included companies from the manufacturing sector such as Dyson, Rolls-Royce Group and the construction equipment maker JCB.
