Jay Z Leads Grammy Nominations with Nine Nods
Rapper Jay Z is dominating the nominations for the 2014 Grammy Awards after earning nine nods.
The hip hop icon is set to go head-to-head with stars including Drake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis after being honoured in almost every rap category.
Songs from his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail are in the running in categories including best rap song and best rap album.
Surprisingly, he missed out in the most coveted categories - Record, Song and Album of the Year.
Meanwhile Kanye West's Yeezus, which has been named album of the year by Entertainment Weekly and Spin, received only two nominations.
His track New Slaves is up for Best Rap Song and Yeezus is up for Best Rap Album.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Justin Timberlake have seven nominations each, while Drake picked up five. Country songbird Taylor Swift received four nominations, including Album of the Year, for Red.
The 56th annual Grammy Awards will be held on 26 January and will be aired live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
