Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases 'heavy' Negan-centric episodes in Walking Dead season 7 amid ratings dip
Critics have lashed out and said that episodes 5 and 6 were 'dull and monotonous'.
Negan was missing in action from the last two episodes of Walking Dead season 7, which were panned as the most boring episodes of the series until date. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan stepped up in defence of the show and teased that the show will focus on Negan ahead of the mid-season finale.
"The next two, I'm really big in. I'm f*****g heavy in those," he told Comic Book at the San Diego Comic Con, hinting that the Savior leader's baseball bat Lucille could do some more damage in the upcoming episodes.
Episodes 5 and 6 – titled Go Getters and Swear respectively – focussed on Maggie and Tara with little progress in the story. Critics opined that it is high time TWD creators come up with fresh and thrilling ideas and change the episode format to attract audiences.
Currently, the show seems to be working on the "one character-one episode" format, which is frustrating for fans as they have to wait for weeks to see major characters including Negan, Rick, Carol, Daryl and King Ezekiel in action. However, with Morgan's assurance, it appears that the wait for the penultimate and finale mid-season episode would be worth it.
The synopsis of the pre-finale episode titled Sing Me a Song teases a better look at how the cruel society of the Saviors functions. "A deeper look at the Sanctuary and the world of the Saviors; members of Alexandria look for supplies," the description read.
Meanwhile, Morgan also teased his character's return in season 8 of the AMC zombie series, dismissing speculation that Daryl and Rick would avenge Glenn and Abe's death by killing Negan.
"I know I will be on board for Season 8," Morgan told the website and added: "We've finished [Season 7] a week ago."
As earlier reported, chances are high the show's creators would introduce the Whisperers in the upcoming season.
The Walking Dead season 7 will return with episode 7 on 4 December on the AMC network.
