Joey Feek on the brink of death: Ailing singer gives one last kiss to daughter before going to 'deep sleep'
After fighting with her cancer for months, Joey Feek is on the brink of death. Her husband Rory Feek confirmed this in his latest blogpost. He mentioned that his bride had stopped fighting with her ailment and said her final goodbyes to her loved ones.
"Joey gathered her family together around her and she said goodbye to each of them... to her mother and father and her three sisters," the 49-year-old country singer wrote in his 29 February blog on This Life I Live. "There were lots of tears as she explained to each one how much she loved them and that she was going to be going home soon. That her time here was done and she was going to go to sleep soon."
In the emotional write-up, the Grammy nominated gospel singer also revealed that his ailing wife had given "one last kiss" to their two-year-old daughter Indiana. Rory revealed it was a teary moment for the entire family as Joey told her little daughter how much she loved her before going into deep sleep.
"She asked me to bring our baby in. And so... I set our little Indy on Joey's lap and we all cried with my wife as she told her how much her mama loved her and, '...you be a big girl for your papa... and that mama will be watching over you'. And then she pulled Indiana up and she kissed her. One last kiss."
The country singer was diagnosed with stage four cancer after the birth of their daughter and underwent intense chemotherapy and radiation therapy sessions. However, in November 2015, her cancer returned in an aggressive form with tumours spreading across to other body parts of her body. The doctors then stopped her treatment and sent her into hospice care to spend the rest of her days surrounded by her family.
Joey had a small wish list that included celebrating the Christmas, the Grammys and her daughter's second birthday. In February, she achieved all her listed milestones despite suffering unbearable pain. However, now her husband has revealed that her body was slowly shutting down and that she only had "days" to live.
"My wife has been asleep for days now and her body is shutting down quickly. The hospice nurse came again this morning and said Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days... at the most."
