Joey Feek cancer update: Dying singer looking forward to the Grammy Awards and daughter's birthday
Joey Feek had another of her wish fulfilled as she celebrated Valentine's Day with her husband Rory Feek, who shared a sweet picture of the duo kissing and wishing each other on the most romantic day of the year. Captioned "happy Valentines Day my love", the heartwarming picture reveals how Rory meticulously planned their date on Joey's hospice bed.
In his blog post This Life I Live, the 50-year-old gospel singer revealed his "little plans" about the "big week" starting with the day of love. "Valentines Day is this Sunday, the Grammy awards Monday, our little Indiana turns 2 on Wednesday, and on top of all that, our new album was released today," he wrote.
The mother of one has grown weak due to her illness but to make her day special, Rory planned to "hold her hand and take her on a 'virtual' walk down memory lane together... with pictures and videos". In the post he said he was hoping for a few soft kisses from his wife, who has stage 4 cancer. "The passion for each other that Joey and I once had has been replaced by the sweetest, gentlest kisses."
The couple have won their fans heart with their unconditional love and support for each other. And their sweet gesture has proved their love again. The father-of-three revealed that his ailing wife had booked air tickets for him to attend the Grammy Awards, which he cancelled later.
"I can't leave her. I won't," he wrote, adding that he would watch the ceremony while sitting besides her "and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others".
Rory, however, has sent his daughters from his first wedding along with his manager to represent the couple on the big night. "We will again gather around Joey's bed and turn on the TV in the corner and watch the Grammy Awards — Joey's mama and daddy and her three sisters and their kids — all of us having a big-time together. We'll watch the presenters and performances and scan the cutaways to the audience for our daughters and our manager in the sea of people dressed-to-the-nines for the big night," he wrote.
Joey's biggest dream is to celebrate her daughter Indiana's second birthday, which is on Wednesday 17 February and her family is looking forward to make the day a very special one for the singer, who is "very fragile at the moment". "Our plan is to put streamers up around Joey's bed and move Indiana's high-chair in beside her, so Joey can be part of it. So she can watch our little-one eat her cupcake and rip the wrapping paper off her gifts," the Grammy-nominated singer wrote.
Joey has already defied doctor's prediction about her life span and has lived beyond Thanksgiving to celebrate Christmas, New Year and Valentine's Day with her family. The country singer is under hospice care after her cancer relapsed and tumours spread to other parts of her body. She is spending her remaining days with her family in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana, since November 2015.
