Joey Feek health update: Terminally ill singer 'inconsolable' while saying goodbye to best friend
As country singer Joey Feek continues her battle with cervical cancer, her singer husband has shared another heartwarming blog updating their fans about her health. Titled St. Jules, the blog explains the American singer's close bond with her best friend Julie.
In his blog site This Life I Live, Rory wrote that even in acute pain due to her illness, his wife was not yet ready to say goodbye to the people who are close to her heart, which includes her best friend. "This morning as I sat beside my wife, and Julie started packing her things... Joey's tears began to fall, She was inconsolable," he wrote.
"I put my arms around her and asked what was wrong. As her lips quivered and she tried to catch her breath, the tears streamed her cheeks and Joey said 'I don't think I will ever see her again'," the blog continued.
Dedicating the post to Joey's loyal friend, the father-of-three recalled their first meeting with Julie eight years ago. Julie was a fan of the couple's band Joey+Rory and had lost two of her best girlfriends to cancer.
He also revealed that when the couple took an year off from music, it was Julie who kept the band alive through social media. As a true friend, she was always there with the Feek family during the cancer battle and even chopped her hair to support Joey, who lost her hair due to the cancer treatment.
"Months later and as Joey's condition has continued to improve, then worsen, again and again... Julie has made three trips home to Washington and is back here with us again. She's been here all week, helping Joey's sister Jody take care of my wife and me and everyone else. She cooks, she cleans, changes the baby's diaper, and does any and everything else that she can find to do that needs to be done while we're living here out of suitcases."
Rory also mentioned that the family is "helping Joey to live the rest of her life and are not waiting for someone we love to die". He wants their fans to remember the mother-of-one as a devoted wife, a loving mother and not as a cancer patient.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer in 2014, three months after her daughter Indiana's birth, Joey underwent intense sessions of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. However, few months later the cancer returned in an aggressive form, as the tumours spread to other parts of her body. In November 2015, the family stopped treatment and admitted Joey to hospice care to spend her time with her family.
The ailing singer is currently spending time with her family at her home state Indiana.
