Johnny Depp insists Amber Heard made domestic violence claim to get more money
This could get very ugly. The Alice Through The Looking Glass star Johnny Depp, whose net worth is estimated to be at £273m ($400m), has slammed wife Amber Heard's attack claims and said that she was simply after his money. Lawyers for the Pirates of the Caribbean star said that the star has denied those claims and that the 52-year-old actor would legally fight the allegations.
As a £136m ($200m) divorce fight emerges, according to the Mirror, Depp's lawyer Laura Wasser said in a statement: "Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.
"Amber is a successful model and actress who earns her own income and is capable of supporting herself.
"Amber's anger certainly cannot drive this dissolution proceeding."
Amber filed for divorce just three days after the death of Depp's mother Betty Sue Palmer on 20 May, and 15 months after the couple got married. According to the Sun, the actress claims repeated violent incidents had left her in fear. The Mirror reports Heard claimed that Depp shattered various objects, but the judge refused to grant to her requests for £35,000 a month maintenance.
The Rum Dairy actress said in a statement: "I live in fear that Johnny will return to the Broadway residence unannounced to terrorise me, physically and emotionally.
"There also have been several prior incidents of domestic violence with Johnny. In particular, there was one severe incident in December 2015 when I truly feared that my life was in danger."
When speaking about the alleged iPhone assault, she said: "Johnny wound his arm up like a baseball pitcher, threw the phone and struck my cheek and eye with great force. Johnny continued to rant in an aggressive and incoherent manner."
Drug-induced violence accusations
Heard accused the Pirates of the Caribbean actor of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when these attacks happened. She continued: "Johnny has a long-held and widely-acknowledged public and private history of drug and alcohol abuse. He has a short fuse.
"He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life-threatening to me.
"Johnny's relationship with reality oscillates, depending upon his interaction with alcohol and drugs."
According to the Mirror, Heard has a video of one of the alleged attacks and those closest to Depp are worried that his privacy could be torn apart by public scrutiny surroundings. Heard's claims were also being questioned.
LAPD Officer Drake Madison confirmed officers who attended the scene eight days ago saw no evidence of a physical assault. He said: "A crime did not occur so the officers left the scene and left a business card."
