Juan Mata, Daniel Levy and Dimitar Berbatov: the Best and Worst of the Transfer Window 21/01
The best rumour of the day
Manchester United will have to pay a staggering £40m if they are to capture attacking midfielder Juan Mata from Chelsea.
Mata has not appeared for Chelsea since he was substituted against Southampton on New Year's Day and, despite being Chelsea's player of the year for the past two seasons, is reportedly ready to leave the club.
The deal has been made more complicated as Chelsea admit they are still interested in making an offer for Wayne Rooney despite the fact United remain adamant that he is not for sale.
Chelsea however are willing to sell the 25-year-old Spaniard so long as the Reds are prepared to match their £40m valuation.
If David Moyes' side are to agree to the transaction Mata's move will go down as one of the top 10 most expensive transfer fees of all time.
The worst rumour of the day
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is still pulling the strings at White Hart Lane as he revealed he is keen on a return for ex-Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov.
Levy is conscious of the fact that Spurs' striking options have been limited by the imminent exit of Jermain Defoe to Toronto next month and is looking for a short-term deal worth £1.5m for the 32-year-old who scored 46 goals in 102 appearances for Spurs.
Manager Tim Sherwood however remains against the move saying: "Everyone knows Berba. He is proven in this division.
"He is a Fulham player and I am not sure what they are thinking about that. But we have options to take us through to the end of the season."
Fulham have confirmed they have received no bids for their star man who seems to be standing firm at Craven Cottage.

Deals of the day
As we enter the final 10 days of this month's transfer window we should expect to see the completion of some big deals from the movers and shakers of the Premier League.
Until then it remains quiet as Ben Chorley leaves Stevenage for Portsmouth and Argentine keeper Oscar Ustari heads to Sunderland from Spanish side Almeria – no money was exchanged for either deal.
Celtic's Tom Rogic is off to Australia, on loan to Melbourne Victory and Norway youngster Sondre Tronstad, 18, joins Huddersfield for a compensatory.
