The lighting of the Olympic cauldron, over a year ago, marked the beginning of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Always an event of immense global significant, affecting people across myriad cultures, the Olympics - officially the Games of the XXX [30th] Olympiad - featured over 10,000 athletes from 200+ countries.
It was a spectacle worthy of the ancient Greeks themselves, who saw the opportunity to develop brotherhood and healthy competition through these games. And fittingly, it was the hosts who stole all the limelight. The United Kingdom may not have finished on top of the medals tally but a series of stunning performances from track and field stars, cyclists, sailors, swimmers crowned a triumphant summer.
Through it all, there was as much attention on Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, as there was on the atheletes. The duchess, an established fashion and style icon, rarely disappoints on such occasions and the 31-year-old was at her fashionable best through the fortnight.
Kate, now mother to Prince George of Cambridge, made her presence felt in her own signature style - she recycled dresses, showed off her trademark blow-dried hairdo and wore her favourite designers' creations.
