Kate Upton Named Model of the Year: Sports Illustrated Star to be Honoured at 10th Annual Style Awards
American model Kate Upton has been named as the Model of the Year.
The 21-year-old will receive the award on 4 September at the 10th annual Style Awards to be held at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Upton made her first Sports Illustrated appearance in 2011, when she was named the magazine's Rookie of the Year. The following year, she appeared on the cover issue of the Swimsuit edition.
"People deal with models like they are children," Upton told Elle last month, "They think they can pull one over on you. It's actually funny. I'm always like, I'm about to pull something on you, and you're so focused on thinking I'm dumb you're not even going to know."
"After my first Sports Illustrated cover, I felt terrible about myself for a solid month," she added, "Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something. I'm not a toy, I'm a human. I'm not here to be used. I am a grown woman, and you need to figure your shit out."
Meanwhile, the event which will be hosted by fashion icon Nicole Richie, will air for the first time on CNN on 14 September. Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande is also set to take the stage and perform at the show. Other honorees include Zac Posen, Victor Cruz, Frederic Fekkai, Patrick DeMarchelier, Rachel Zoe, John Varvatos, Trish Summerville, Janie Bryant and Victoria's Secret. All the ten honorees will receive a Tiffany & Co. designed award for their contribution to the fashion community.
