Katy Perry Leads MTV EMAs 2014 Nominations with Seven Nods

After a turbulent year, which included a messy break up and a plagiarism lawsuit, it looks like things are finally turning around for pop superstar Katy Perry.

The Dark Horse singer leads this year's MTV Europe Music Awards with an impressive seven nominations including the coveted best video and best song awards.

She will go head-to-head with Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift in the best female category and she has also been nominated for the best look award.

Meanwhile, Grande is also flying the flag for the ladies after bagging nominations in six categories, including best pop and best newcomer.

Although the Problem singer acted as a backstage host at last year's awards ceremony in Amsterdam, this is the first time she has been up for an award.

Singer and producer Pharrell Williams is up for five awards thanks to the success of his summer hit single, Happy, while boy band One Direction and soul singer Sam Smith are representing the UK with four nominations each.

The MTV EMAs will be held at the Hydro in Glasgow on 9 November. Fans can vote for their favourite artist at mtvema.com.
